UDSM: No taking back students who sued us.

Students who filed a law suit against the University of Dar es Salaam have not being allowed back but seven of their counterparts who did not go to court and also offered official apologies have been permitted to resume classes in the academic year of 2013/2014.
This development adds to the on going saga that was sparked last year when the university’s management expelled 15 students and suspended 86 others for boycotting classes demanding 43 of their expelled colleagues be unconditionally reinstated.
But instead of rescuing their class mates, they too were expelled and the university ahas refused to allow them back short of an apology, several behavioural reports from their immediate supervisors and for those who seeked justice through the court system, they are not to return to class until the courts gives its ruling.
those who provided the reports and offered official apologies will resume classes but those who went to court will remain expelled because we cant intervene the court proceeding” said the University Deputy vice Chancellor (administration) Prof. Yunus Mgaya during an exclusive interview held yesterday in Dar es Salaam.
Among them were leaders of the students’ organization (Daruso) which include the speaker, Minister for Education and Academics Deputy Minister.

Earlier in January 2012, 15 students were expelled, apparently only seven offered apologies and received the clean reports from the Dean of students, the relevant Academic units and also official recognition from their District Administration recognising who they are and their residency.
Prof. Mgaya, a Marine Biology professor, made it clear that the University would not tolerate any behaviour that breaches their codes of conduct and threaten the campuses peace and tranquility in any way or form.
Affirming that the institute will not reinstate the students who filed the law suit to contest their expulsion, Prof. Mgaya remained adamant that they will not receive any leniency short of the court proceeding running their due course and then also for the students to provide the required behaviour reports.
what the university wants is for the students to provide behaviour reports from the Dean of students, heads of their various Academic units and also from their local government district officials as to authenticate their residency and communal profiles,” he asserted.
As for the seven who resume class following their apologies, the professor had this to say: “We will prepare conditions for them to meet. They will have to make sue they don’t breach our conditions otherwise they are out,”
He maintained that both continuing and incoming students must keep a peaceful environment to ensure education and other activities conducted by the university continue to run smoothly. As implicated by the don, any who would, for a reason or another, derail from this norm will be faced with stringent repercussions and that includes expulsion.
