More than 40 universities will compete at the coming Eastern Africa
University Games (EAUG) scheduled to take off next month in Dar es
Salaam.
The organising committee chairman, Professor Yunus Mgaya, said yesterday that the games will take place from February 8 to 12.
President Jakaya Kikwete will grace the opening ceremony of the
eighth regional championship to be hosted by the University of Dar es
Salaam under the auspices of the Tanzania Universities Sports
Association (TUSA), he said, noting that preparations were going on
well.EAUG is an event organized on a rotational basis among
universities, to bring together students from scores of universities in
the region.
Mgaya said students from within the region meet and compete in
various sports and exchange views on various educational and social
issues.
Through these games, students socialise, make friends and
integrate, he said, noting that the competing teams will be accommodated
at Mabibo Hostel.
Sports disciplines to be competed at the event are soccer, netball,
basketball, volleyball, track and field events, swimming, chess, rugby,
hockey and handball.
