Chelsea returned to the top of the Barclays Premier League with
their third successive victory, a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at
Stamford Bridge.
Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres were involved in both goals, the Belgian converting a penalty won by the Spaniard before the pair played a one-two that the Spain striker poked home.
Chelsea usurped Swansea City, who beat West Ham United 3-0 in the early kick-off. Also on six points are Everton who inflicted a second defeat on Aston Villa, the home side going down 3-1. Southampton are also waiting for their first points after losing 2-0 at home to Wigan Athletic.
Manchester United got their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.
Tottenham Hotspur were denied a win by West Bromwich Albion's James Morrison scoring a late equaliser. The match between Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers also finished 1-1.
The match between Sunderland and Reading was postponed when heavy rain waterlogged the Stadium of Light pitch.
